Alex Murphy is a schizophrenic with an obsession for the unknown. People think he's a creep, he spends all time locked in his room researching and starting his own conspiracy theories about aliens. During an uneventful week, Murphy begins to pick up strange radio signals, speaking a unknown language, believing this to be an Alien contacting him, he begins to act quickly delving deeper and deeper into madness as he tries to make First Contact with the supposed Alien race. He makes contact and the Aliens begin to speak the English language, Murphy begins to take strange orders from them as he begins to get brainwashed by the signals. His family haven't seen him in weeks and begin to worry about him, they turn up to his house and see him with a tin foil helmet on trying to send a hedgehog to the alien mothership. He's sent to a psychiatrist where the inner workings of his brainwashed mind and his plan are brought to the fore.
Opening Sequence;
- Begins with close up zoom shot of a clock that reads "3:00 AM" With a non-diegetic voice in the background holding a conversation with himself. Mellow score playing throughout, relaxed.
- Cut to a high angle shot of his room, with him sitting at his computer desk continuing his conversation.
- Cut to a close up of his computer screen, on conspiracy theorist sites.
- Cut to a close up of his face. Pale, spotty, neckbeard. typical shut in.
- Zoom shot of a HAM Radio that suddenly switches on with weird noises coming through. Score stops abruptly.
- Cross cut between Murphy's reaction and the HAM Radio.
- Begins to make out a strange language, high angle pan of him running to the radio and trying to communicate with it.
- He hears the name "Alex Murphy" come through the radio twice. Fade to black.
